Project Kwinana Pigment Plant Purification Column Design
The existing heavy ends column, located in Tiwest’s Purification area (which removes zirconium chloride, tin chloride, vanadium and other impurities) is nearing the end of its life and is in need of replacement. Sargon Engineering provided engineering services to form the groundwork for this project, including process engineering and mechanical design work.
Sargon Engineering performed numerous process calculations to determine the size and throughput for a replacement heavy ends column, investigating how the replacement column would integrate with the existing plant, and considering the suitability of connecting equipment and the possible need for other upgrade works. Sargon Engineering formulated an equipment datasheet, which specified the vessel dimensions and design features, and created a comprehensive 3D model of the purification area, based on existing design drawings, to illustrate the design tasks necessary for the project to be completed successfully. The column design was conveyed on mechanical general arrangement and detail drawings. Connecting pipework and plant tie-ins were modelled in 3D and summarised on piping GA and isometric drawings. The data sheet and drawings were issued for tender.
Sargon Engineering was able to give Tiwest the necessary process data and design data for their project to get off the ground, allowing more detailed design work to proceed.
